Coronado is a coastal California resort city located on a peninsula in the San Diego Bay. It is a popular beach destination and is home to the grand Victorian Hotel del Coronado, which opened in 1888. Other popular attractions include the wide, flat Coronado Beach, which attracts surfers, as well as the leash-free, dog-friendly version. Shops, restaurants, and the Coronado Ferry Landing can be found on the waterfront. A trip to Centennial Park can provide views of the city skyline.

The town of Coronado is incorporated on December 11, 1890. It is the first place in San Diego County to have a post office, which opens on February 8, 1887. The city was originally named after a famous hotel and was built on a bayside peninsula. The area’s land was originally purchased by Elisha Spurr Babcock, Hampton L. Story, and Jacob Gruendike. These men and others later established the Coronado Beach Company.
